Areas of Expertise

Private practice mentorship

I provide clinical support and private practice mentorship. If you are new to the field and are considering opening up your own solo or group practice I can guide you in the process!

Teaching & Learning

I am a dynamic, energetic person, which makes me a great teacher. I love to facilitate students' learning and am fortunate enough to be able to teach in both college and university settings. I also provide curriculum development and design in addition to in-class and online teaching. I provide training for organizations in mental health and addiction.

Supervision & Consultation

Over the years I have supervised students and colleagues in areas of trauma informed practice, cultural safety, mental health and addictions. I provide support to individuals working in the North via telephone and a virtual online platform. Some topics for supervision include case management and consultation, vicarious trauma and compassion fatigue, private practice management etc. I meet the requirements for clinical supervision with the College of Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO). I am a student practicum supervisor for therapists (MA & MACP) and clinical social work students (MSW). I can accommodate both internal and external supervision opportunities for students.

My Approach

I have always said that I am largely post-modern. What does that even mean...you ask? Well I believe in the diversity of people and that people  bring different lived experience to their healing journey. There's no one size fits all approach. That being said, people describe me as a quiet encourager and a gentle elicitor. I am non-confrontational but I can inspire self confrontation.

This is because I believe that people ultimately know what they need to do to change, but that there is something getting in the way of changing. My role then is to evoke a change agenda that already exists within a person. When things may seem hopeless (and believe me I have seen a lot of hopelessness) there is always that glimmer of light or that strength from which to draw on. My hope is to provide not only a safe holding space for people's stories, but also a quiet eliciting momentum for change.

I believe that good therapy is founded on a healthy professional relationship and this takes time to develop. If you are expecting a quick fix, then I will be the first to tell you that this probably will not happen. I have a lot of advice to give, but I am more interested in learning about what advice you have already given yourself. I am interested in learning about your journey and where you want to head to next.

Are you interested in finding safety in your body? I can help.
